Some verbs are followed by -ing and some are followed by to ...

Verbs ordinarily followed by -ing :

Some verbs can be followed by -ing or to ... with a difference of significant:

recollect

I remember doing something= I did information technology and at present I remember this.

Yous remember doing something after yous have washed it.

· I know I locked the door. I clearly remember locking it.

(=I locked information technology, and now I remember this)

· He could think driving forth the road just before the blow, but he couldn't retrieve the blow itself.

I remembered to do something= I remembered that I had to do information technology, and so I did it.

You remember to do something earlier you practice it.

· I remembered to lock the door, simply I forgot to shut the windows.

(= I remembered that I had to lock it, and so I locked it)

· I must remember to pay the electricity beak. (= I must not forget to pay it)

regret

I regret doing something= I did information technology and now

I'm sorry nigh it:

· I now regret maxim what I said. I shouldn't have said it.

· Do you regret not going to college?

I regret to say /to tell yous / to inform you lot = I'm sad that I have to say (etc.):

· (from a formal alphabetic character) We regret to inform you lot that your awarding has been unsuccessful.

go on

Go on doing something = go on with the aforementioned thing:

· The president paused for a moment and and then went on talking .

· We need to alter. We tin't go along living like this.

Go on to do something = do or say something new:

· Afterward discussing the economic system, the president then went on to talk about foreign policy.

The following verbs tin be followed by -ing or to .. . with no departure of meaning:

begin

showtime

proceed

intend

bother

So you can say:

· Information technology started raining . or It started to rain .

· Andy intends ownership a house. or Andy intends to buy ...

· Don't bother locking the door. or Don't carp to lock ...

But normally we practice not use -ing after -ing :

· Information technology's starting to rain . (not it's starting raining)
